North Park Public Water District

The North Park Public Water District is a public corporation chartered on May 9, 1955. The District currently serves a population of approximately 33,000 and serves over 12,000 households and businesses in the Machesney Park, Roscoe and Loves Park area. High Professional standards have maintained the District's reliability for the past 55 years in the service area. The Water District has received certificates of commendation for its technical operations from both the Illinois EPA and the Illinois Department of Public Health. The District also received international recognition through the Ground Water Guardian Foundation for its groundwater protection efforts. The District is committed to providing safe drinking water to its customers. The source of water provided by the District is four wells drawing from sand and gravel aquifers. These wells are capable of producing over 20 million gallons per day. You may receive a mixture of water from the wells. 3 of the 4 wells are equipped for emergency pumping when required. The district has a storage capacity of 2.2 million gallons.

North Suburban Library District

The History of the North Suburban Library District NSLD/Roscoe offered wireless Internet access starting October 3, 2005. A wireless network was added to NSLD/Loves Park a few months later. The library also increased the number of public computers in NSLD/Roscoe to 10. During 2005-2006, circulation at NSLD/Loves Park and NSLD/Roscoe increased to 590,794. NSLD/Roscoe librarys yearly circulation increased by more than 35% and Loves Parks annual circulation increased over 15%. The number of visitors at both libraries increased by 8.2% to 360,681. Overcrowding at NSLD/Roscoes library was a problem. There was a severe shortage of program space and also shelving space for materials.

Northern Illinois Building Contractors Assoc. (NIBCA)

The Northern Illinois Building Contractors Association (NIBCA) was formed in 1918 in response to an industry crisis. World War I had just come to an end and certain businesses were causing instability locally and nationwide by hoarding scarce building materials and selling them at outrageous profits. A small group of Rockford building contractors met and with a handshake agreed to not allow hoarding and to meet regularly on other issues. They called themselves Associated Building Contractors of Rockford. From this principled beginning, the association has broadened its scope and dimension consistently. In the 1930s it became a regional network of contractors covering most of northwestern Illinois. In the early 50s, this regionalization was formalized by the association becoming an autonomous chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. With that alliance, our chapter was re-named the Northern Illinois Building Contractors Association and assigned responsibility for the nine northwestern counties of Illinois. With this heightened role, NIBCA hired staff, created health and welfare and retirement programs for union employees, bargained contracts, hired legislative consultants, provided full-time safety services, developed educational and award programs and settled on a social events calendar. Today NIBCA represents over 100 contractors and industry affiliates, provides a full-time staff of professionals, engages the services of a public relations consultant, an attorney for member use and a legislative liaison in Illinois and Washington.

Nunzio's Restaurant

Customers are often surprised to learn there really is a person behind the name Nunzios, the popular Italian restaurant located at 5800 North Second St., in Loves Park. The man is Nunzio Canale, a Rockford native whos built a name for himself in the restaurant business, thanks to 35 years of dishing up excellent food and quality service. Nunzio got an early start, when he landed a job at the age of 14 busing tables and washing dishes at DAugustines, a restaurant that was located at Five Points in Rockford. With books in hand, Nunzio went straight to the restaurant one day after school, calling his parents with the good news about his first job. About a year later, he became the cook and kitchen manager at Michaels, which opened in the DAugustine location.
