Reid State Technical College
Reid State Technical College was created by the Alabama State Legislature through a State statute on May 3, 1963. Through this enabling legislation, the College was chartered to provide citizens of the area greater and equal access to postsecondary education to help provide a trained workforce for area employers to assist in the economic development of the area. Local support for the establishment of the College was provided by the City of Evergreen with the donation of 26 acres of land in north Evergreen at the intersection of Interstate 65 and state Highway 83, which became the institution's main campus.
From this campus, the College's main service area, which includes Conecuh, Monroe, and Escambia counties and portions of Butler, Covington, and Wilcox counties. In 1981 Reid State established an off-site location in the city of Atmore for the College's Practical Nursing Program. The architectural firm of Carl H. Lancaster, Jr., Montgomery, Alabama, designed and supervised construction of the main campus facilities consisting of the administration building, seven shops and laboratory buildings, and a warehouse.
The Wiley Salter Auditorium and Administration Building were completed in 1986 and 1990 major renovations were initiated for the creation of a learning center and high tech training laboratories for specialized training in computer software applications, programmable logic controllers, and instrumentation systems. In 1993 and 1994 major renovations were conducted for the creation of a modern practical nursing facility to more closely resemble clinical facilities. Camille Place
Camille Place is building an 8,600 square foot residence that will house up to 16 girls. This will serve as the primary living facility for young girls as they go through the rehabilitation process. The building also features group and staff meeting rooms, a kitchen and dining area, and a greenspace courtyard. Construction is expected to begin in 2020.
Camille Place was founded by Chris Ziebach in 2015 with one goal in mind: to save children and to bring them to lasting freedom. Chris began to have vivid dreams in late 2014 of young girls and even herself being kidnapped, assaulted and sold into captivity. Over the next several months, as the dreams continued, Chris experienced numerous encounters with strangers and friends alike that solidified the vision for what Camille Place was to become. Through this journey, she discovered human trafficking was happening in our backyard, across the state, and throughout the United States. She also discovered that once rescued, there were very few organizations providing quality rehabilitation programs for survivors.

Edward Jones Investments
Every investment firm has principles. And most of the time they probably sound exactly the same. We believe Edward Jones is different in almost every way. Our principles were deliberately created with you in mind.
We serve only individual investors, just like you. That's why we have offices in your community. You see one financial advisor and one branch office administrator dedicated to working with you. What you may not know is that there are thousands of people and advanced technology supporting that local office. We did this on purpose. You shouldn’t have to call an 800 number for investment advice. You need to talk with someone who knows you and understands what you're working toward. That's why Edward Jones believes the relationship between you and your financial advisor is one of the most important aspects of successful investing.
You'll also notice we don't have “hot” investments of the day. We stick with proven, long-term investment strategies. We don't believe chasing the latest fad is any way to create a comfortable retirement, pay for a child's education or build a legacy for your heirs.

Jim Barnes Enterprises, Inc. D/B/A McDonald's
On November 8th, 1997 we reopened our brand new McDonald's Restaurant. Please drop in and see our new restaurant and play place. We offer the best food in our industry and are proud to a part of Monroeville. We offer WI-Fi connectivity for your computer needs, and we feature the newest technology in our double booth drive thru service. We are taking applications for management trainees.
Back in 1954, a man named Ray Kroc discovered a small burger restaurant in California, and wrote the first page of our history. From humble beginnings as a small restaurant, we're proud to have become one of the world's leading food service brands with more than 36,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.
McDonalds passion for quality meant that every single ingredient was tested, tasted and perfected to fit the operating system. Kroc shared his vision of McDonalds future, selling his early suppliers on future volumes. They believed in him and the restaurant boomed. Ray Kroc was looking for a partnership, and he managed to create the most integrated, efficient and innovative supply system in the food service industry. These supplier relationships have flourished over the decades. In fact, many McDonalds suppliers operating today first started business with a handshake from Ray Kroc.
A Unique Philosophy
Ray Kroc wanted to build a restaurant system that would be famous for providing food of consistently high quality and uniform methods of preparation. He wanted to serve burgers, buns, fries and beverages that tasted just the same in Alaska as they did in Alabama.
To achieve this, he chose a unique path: persuading both franchisees and suppliers to buy into his vision, working not for McDonalds but for themselves, together with McDonalds. He promoted the slogan, In business for yourself, but not by yourself. His philosophy was based on the simple principle of a 3-legged stool: one leg was McDonalds franchisees; the second, McDonalds suppliers; and the third, McDonalds employees. The stool was only as strong as the three legs that formed its foundation.

Peoples Exchange Bank
Peoples Exchange Bank was founded in Beatrice, Alabama in 1907 when Lechter Melton of Pensacola, Florida interested a number of local people in its organization. Money was borrowed from a Pensacola bank to start the bank and S.D. Andress was put in charge. The bank has operated continuously since that time except for two days in the mid 1930s, when President Roosevelt's moratorium on banking resulted in a two-day Bankers Holiday.
Peoples Exchange Bank opened its doors for business September 18, 1907 and recorded a 10-percent profit for the first days business.
The bank was originally operated in a wooden building on the west side of Main Street in Beatrice. In 1909 the bank relocated across the street into a brick building. This building was remodeled and updated several times and then in 1969 a new building was built across the street. The bank has now been housed on three side of the same intersection in Beatrice.
A branch office was opened in Monroeville in 1976 and was first operated from a mobile unit. Later in 1977 a bank building was constructed and opened at the present Monroeville location. Since that time the bank was been enlarged and remodeled several times.
At the present time Peoples Exchange Bank is the only locally owned bank in Monroe County. This bank is owned by Peoples Exchange Bancshares, Inc.

On January 4, 2007, United Bank, founded as the Bank of Atmore, celebrated 103 years of service to the South Alabama and Northwest Florida communities we so proudly serve. During these years, we endured two world wars, the Great Depression, and countless other political and economic events. We consider those years a success for the simple fact that we survived. That alone places us among few other banks that can boast the same distinction.
Today, United Bank is routinely recognized as one of America's strongest banks by national bank ratings firms. United Bank encourages you to visit www.bauerfinancial.com to see where we rank among other Alabama and Florida banks. United Bank's Internet Banking is an exciting opportunity to better serve our customers and introduce others to United Bank's style of "high tech, high touch" banking by developing financial products and services that help our customers live and work and offer customer service and convenience, too. Harrigan Lumber Co., Inc.
Harrigan Lumber Company was founded in 1972 and began operations in 1974 at a new facility in Monroeville, AL, producing Southern Yellow Pine dimension lumber. A decline in the lumber market nearly forced the company out of business in the first few years, but the market eventually turned and Harrigan Lumber Company turned with it.
William D. "Billy" Harrigan and his son Dwight established the company and quickly turned it into one of the south's premier sawmills. Billy Harrigan passed away in 1976 and Dwight assumed full control of the company.
Harrigan Lumber Company expanded its operations in 1988 with the addition of a pole mill on the same site as the sawmill. The pole mill produced untreated Southern Yellow Pine poles and pilings to suit a variety of applications. Due to a decline in the market, the pole mill was shut down in 2002 and its employees were transferred to the sawmill.
Dwight's oldest son William D. "Chip" Harrigan III joined the company in 1989 after graduating from Auburn University in Industrial Management. After several years he earned the title of Vice President of Production and continues to hold that position today.
A major sawmill renovation, completed in 1991, updated the old Chip-N-Saw mill to a modern sharp chain system. Current production capacity is approximately 115 million board feet per year. We currently produce Southern Pine dimension lumber in lengths up to 20 feet as well as some small timbers.
Over the years Dwight has taken a less active role in the day-to-day operations of the mill to focus on the family's other business interests, including Scotch Lumber Company in Fulton, AL. The chip also works full time at Scotch Lumber Co. while serving as Chairman of the Board of Harrigan Lumber Co. since 2005. Dwight's youngest son Patrick joined the company in July 2000 after graduating from Auburn with a degree in Business Management. He soon earned the title of Vice President of Operations and in 2003 was named President. The family is committed to maintaining the company's status as an independent family-run mill.
We invite you to visit our facility and see a modern sawmill in action. For more information or to set up a tour send us an email at info@harriganlumber.com or call us at 251-575-4821.

St. John's Episcopal Church
St. John’s Episcopal Church of Monroeville has roots that go back to Claiborne and Perdue Hill. The following describes the formation of the Episcopal church in Monroe County. In 1858 Mrs. John C. Arthur visited Cahaba, and while there she met Bishop Nicholas Hamner Cobbs. Mrs. Arthur was desirous of becoming a member of the Episcopal church and having her children baptized in that faith. She requested Bishop Cobbs to visit Claiborne, and in December of that year he and the Rev. George F. Cushman, rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Cahaba, began holding services in the Methodist church at Claiborne. During these services, St. James Church was organized. The name of the church was suggested by Mary A. Torrey who belonged to an Episcopal church by that name in Virginia. St. James was admitted to the Diocesan Convention May 5, 1859. The original and only place of worship was the Masonic Hall. During Reconstruction days following the Civil War, Claiborne began to decline and by 1872 was almost completely deserted. In 1872, the St. James Parish of Claiborne became defunct and several of the members moved to Perdue Hill, two miles away. The Masonic Hall was also moved to this location. For a period of approximately 20 years only occasional services were conducted here. In 1893, the mission was established by the Rev. John Gardner Murray. In 1895, a new building was erected. The architectural style was in the Gothic tradition. Church become inactiveOver a span of several years the membership of St. James Church at Perdue Hill diminished, and it became expedient for the church to become inactive. The church building was dismantled in the 1940s. In 1923, a group of seven ladies, who were members of St. James, are credited with the idea of forming an Episcopal church in Monroeville. These ladies met in the home of Mrs. Charles Richard Crook to organize St. John’s Guild with a goal of purchasing a church lot. Those present were Mrs. Crook, Mrs. Nora C. Hybart, Mrs. J.D. Ratcliffe, Mrs R.H. Schneider, Mrs. Sam Forwood, Mrs. Ed Clapp and Mrs. John Hope Moore Jr. The motto, "United We Stand, Divided We Fall," helped keep the group steadfast in their money-raising efforts. At a county-wide fair in 1924, the Episcopal ladies operated a concession booth, selling sandwiches, oysters, coffee and handmade articles. A total of $300 was collected. Other fund-raising activities included: sample sale, silver teas, making down comforts, quilts and tufted bedspreads for sale. On Saturdays, the ladies made chicken salad sandwiches and sold them to a drugstore for 8 cents each. Miniature aprons were made and sent to friends asking them to give 1 cent for each year of their age. Their hard work paid off in 1926 when they purchased the lot from the late Judge M.M. Fountain for $1,035. In less than two years the lot was paid for. A building for a church school was the next step. Prior to this time, the Presbyterian Church which was next door to the church’s lot was used whenever a minister was available for services. In 1927 building began on the guild hall. Plans were to add church buildings later. Running short of funds to complete the building, the group made an application to the American Church Building Fund Commission for a $600 loan, being the only indebtedness. The guild hall or parish house became the center of a regular schedule of services when St. John’s became a mission station. St. John’s Church steadily grew and with the help of a committee consisting of Mrs. William Lovett Jr., chairman; Mr. Claude Swift, Mrs. Doy McCall and Mrs. Richard Farish, plans were made to enlarge the existing facility. In 1961 a new entrance facing North Mt. Pleasant Street was added. Other additions included two new church school classrooms and a restroom. Landscaping and a walkway were also added to the front. At this time E.G. Michaels II was senior warden and Claude Swift was junior warden. There were four church school classes and a ladies’ guild. A need to expand After several years of consideration, it was decided that St. John’s Episcopal Church needed more room for expansion. The vestry purchased the new 5-acre plot in 1977, and the church was moved on a trailer to its new location on Whetstone Street where it is located today. On Aug. 28, 1977, The Right Reverend George Murray, Bishop of the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast, presided over the new land. Fortunately, St. John’s had among its members a well-known architect, Gordon Elliott, who was asked to draw the plans for the new church building to be added to the original structure which would become the parish house. The present simple and beautiful building, begun in 1979, was constructed according to the plans of Mr. Elliott As well as being an architect, Mr. Elliott was an artist in stained glass. The inspiring window in the chapel was made by him for the first church building on North Mt. Pleasant and was moved to the new chapel. The window is now located in the Marie McCall Education wing. He also made all of the symbolic shields which are in the church windows. On September 20, 1981, The Right Reverend Charles Duvall dedicated and blessed the new St. John’s Episcopal Church. This Bishop also accepted and blessed the following memorials given to the church: The Altar Windows, in memory of Jack Hines Farish, given by his family and friends. Priest who have served St. John’s are: Paul Engel of Carlowville, Eugene Clark of Tennessee, Joseph Walker of Atmore, Edgar Van W. Edwards, George C. Merkel, Henry L. Heath, John R. Lodge, Thomas A. Powell, Charles Mabry and Robert Seawell. St. John’s is growing Many signs of the growth can be seen at St. John’s, Monroeville. A library, dedicated to Lilian Long, has been created in the front of the Parish Hall. Other signs of the growth can be seen in the recently expanded kitchen, and the construction of an education wing which included much-needed nursery space. Renovation has also been done on the office area to include a work room and a secretarial space. On the west side of the church, a playground for the children and a cemetery have been added. The church has also acquired the land on the east side of the church which came with a house. The senior high and junior youth groups use the house for weekly meetings. Sunday school classes are also held in the house. In the summer of 1998, St. John’s hired its first full-time youth minister, Stuart Shelby, who ministered to the youth of St. John’s. The church has an active E.C.W., choir, family ministry program and altar guild. St. John’s has grown from 60 communicants in 1980 to 173 in 1998 in a city of 7,500 people. The people of St. John’s are widely involved in civic and business affairs as well as in volunteer organizations.

Airport Animal Clinic
Airport Animal Clinic has served Monroe County for over 30 years. Dr. Compton and his staff provide veterinary medicine and surgery for small animals. Air conditioned boarding facilities are also available. It is centrally located on Highway 21 South across from the Monroe County Airport. Appointments may be made by calling 251-575-2763.
Airport Animal Clinic was founded in 1967 by Dr. Frederick P. Hamann and his wife Nancy. They began by working out of their home on Lincoln Street, in Cadillac, when Dr. Hamann saw most of his patients via house visits or on farm calls. The hours were long, hard, and unpredictable for both of them
In 1968, the Hamanns moved the business to it's first physical location on Boon Road across from the Wexford County Airport thus giving it it's name. Airport Animal Clinic remained there for the next 31 years during which time more veterinarians joined the practice, and also more staff members. Toward the end of that time period, it became apparent that the business had outgrown the building and Dr. Hamann began drawing up plans for a new, larger facility.
His unexpected death in 1999 put building plans on hold for awhile and the following year, Nancy decided to take a well-earned retirement and moved to Holland, Michigan to be near family.
Eventually, the plans resumed and in 2004, the business was relocated to it's current address.
The Hamanns' hard work and dedication to providing the best veterinary care possible for over 30 years, created the foundation for the Airport Animal Clinic, which continues to grow and proudly serve the Cadillac area and surrounding communities. And while he didn't live to see it built, we can thank Dr. Hamann for having the vision of building the beautiful 6000 square foot facility which Airport Animal Clinic now calls home.

Blue Door & Co.
Blue Door & Co.
We are delighted that you've chosen to explore our website. Allow us to introduce ourselves – we're Macklin and Alyssa Watson, a young married couple residing in the quaint town of Monroeville, Alabama. Macklin, a proud Monroe County native of over 20 years, is the creative genius behind the scenes and our talented photographer. He's the true backbone of our business! As for myself, Alyssa, I hail from the charming town of Colquitt, nestled in southwest Georgia. Fate brought Macklin and me together during our time at Troy University (Go Trojans!), and the rest, as they say, is history.
In August 2023, we embarked on this journey by launching Blue Door & Co. as a small "side gig" while I pursued my passion for cosmetology. However, as our business flourished, it quickly became my full-time endeavor, and I managed to convince Macklin to join me in opening a storefront. Fashion has always been my passion since childhood – I meticulously chose my outfit every night before school and was even honored with the title of "Best Dressed" during my senior year. Since the inception of our women's store, we've received wonderful feedback, leading us to expand into men's fashion lines and home decor.
Our vision for Blue Door & Co. is simple – to become the ultimate "one-stop shop" for the people of Monroeville. We are deeply grateful to each and every customer who has supported us on this journey. Above all, we attribute our success to the blessings bestowed upon us by the good Lord above. Thank you for visiting our website, happy shopping, and may God bless you abundantly!

David's Catfish House
Back in 1983 David and Sadie Ross started serving food from their now famous menu. Nearly a quarter century later, the catfish and cheese grits have been flying out of the kitchen. In fact, the dish has been named one of the 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel for two consecutive years.
Not bad for a mom and pop start-up that began in Waynesboro, Mississippi.
Three years after opening and seeing a market in dire need of great food, David and Sadie moved their restaurant to Monroeville Alabama, where its headquartered today.
David's Catfish Restaurant has a wonderful staff ready to serve you in the classic Southern Charming David's Catfish Tradition.
Our batters, breadings and mixes are made from scratch daily. Likewise, our coleslaw and salads are made from the freshest ingredients available.
We proudly serve shrimp, crabclaws and oysters purchased from Alabama's Seafood Capital, Bayou La Batre, Alabama.

Perdue Hill-Claiborne Foundation, Inc.
Perdue Hill-Claiborne Foundation, Inc.
The Perdue Hill-Claiborne Foundation, Inc., located in historic Perdue Hill, Alabama, was created in 1982 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The foundation's mission is to enhance, maintain, and preserve the historic buildings and sites in Perdue Hill and Claiborne, Alabama. The Perdue Hill-Claiborne Foundation, Inc. is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the Masonic Lodge also known as The Hall, William B. Travis House, William S. Moore Store, and the Union Church. The largest and oldest is the Masonic Lodge dating back to 1824. The second floor of this building held the meeting space for the third Masonic lodge organized in the state. The first floor has been used as a courtroom, church, school, and even a town hall. In April of 1825, barely a year after its completion, this was the scene of a reception honoring the Marquis de Lafayette on his tour across America and is the only surviving structure in Alabama which he visited. Just next door is a more modest but even older structure, the 1820 William B. Travis House, once occupied by a young William Barrett Travis. Here he practiced law before moving to Texas where he and some 180 others were massacred as they tried to defend the Alamo in 1836. The William S. Moore Store, originally built as a physician’s office in 1875, was enlarged some 50 years later as a general country store. The Union Church, donated to the foundation in 2024, is also located on its original site and was built prior to 1878. The church was initially used by the Methodist, Baptist and Presbyterian denominations with the Presbyterians holding services there until the 1990s. The lumber used in building the church was salvaged from a tavern in Claiborne and was hand planed and milled during the 1820s or 30s. The pulpit, chairs, pews, and wall lamps are all original. The mission of the Foundation is to preserve and maintain these historic buildings, sites and the memory of the people, famous or not, who lived in this area during the early 1800s and 1900s. Whether through your time, resources, or monetary donations, your contributions are welcomed to help preserve the sites and buildings of Perdue Hill and Clairborne, Alabama for generations to come. Feel free to reach out to the foundation for inquiries or to explore opportunities for involvement and collaboration in their mission to empower and preserve the community. Southern Pine Electric Cooperative
In 1936, most of the area that today comprises Southern Pine was without electricity. In fact, less than one out of 25 local farms had electricity at that time. Though local leaders had long pleaded with utilities to run electric lines throughout the area, those utilities did not think such action was financially feasible.
That situation was soon to change when on May 11, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, by Executive Order, established the Rural Electrification Administration (REA). The Rural Electrification Act authorized a governmental, electrification loan program designed to help bring electricity to rural America.
Many people across the area that was to become Southern Pine, wanted electricity and were prepared to make the necessary sacrifices to receive that service. Local leaders in favor of electrifying the area hit the roads and on their own time began recruiting members for a local rural electric cooperative.
At ten a.m. on August 23, 1938, seven men filed into the law offices of McMillan, Caffey and McMillan in Brewton, Ala. The original board members were: Ben L. Martin, chairman; H. W. Pruitt, secretary; Jack McGowin, A. M. Coley, C. B. Moore, E. M. Amos and Alvin Mixon.
They and other leaders throughout the area devoted much of their personal time to make Southern Pine a reality. By November 1, 1938, almost 250 area citizens had paid their $5 membership fee and become official members of Southern Pine. At last, in August of 1939, the first Southern Pine power lines were energized. A dream was realized as many local farmers and other rural residents could at last light the darkness of their homes and farms.
Much has changed through the many years since that history-making date. Schools, businesses and industries have located within the co-op's service area. Towns have grown and what was once rural area may now be a subdivision or an industrial park.
Today, Southern Pine serves more than 21,144 accounts and 3,314 miles of line in portions of Baldwin, Conecuh, Covington, Escambia and Monroe counties. While much has changed over the years since its inception, one thing that has not changed is the co-op's devotion to its members. Past and present board members, management and employees have worked countless hours through the years with one goal in mind: Meeting the needs of the Southern Pine membership in the most reliable, competitively-priced manner possible.

Marvin's
In 1945, Marvin Cohn opened a hardware store in Alabama City, Alabama (now Gadsden). His initial goal was to provide excellent service coupled with quality products. As business grew, Marvin opened an additional Gadsden location and added housewares, a small line of electrical supplies and plumbing supplies.
Expanding to Full-Service Home Centers
In 1956, a warehouse was rented to accommodate Marvin's growing list of new products. Lumber, plywood, siding, and millwork were now part of Marvin's inventory. The business continued to expand and in 1965, a full-service home center was constructed to replace the two older stores. Since then, Marvin's has grown to include stores throughout Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Crawford Electric Supply
In the earliest days of the electrical age, a young company set out with the vision of helping build the infrastructure that would bring electricity to the rural South. That company was Irby. Monroeville received the designation of Literary Capital of Alabama in 1997 by joint proclamation of both the Alabama House and Senate because of its history to produce many famous writers, such as Nelle Harper Lee, Truman Capote, Mike Stewart, Cynthia Tucker, and Mark Childress (to name a few).
Monroe County was founded in 1815 on lands ceded by local Native American tribes. Monroeville, once known as Centerville, was renamed for James Monroe and incorporated on April 15, 1899. However, there is a record of the first municipal election being held on January 23, 1858, to incorporate the town of Monroeville with a 14 to 0 vote in favor of incorporation.A crossroads community just outside the plantation region of the Black Belt, the Community was largely agricultural. In the mid-1930s a Vanity Fair textile mill opened and along with wood products contributed to a dynamic local economy.
In May 2005, Monroeville received the designation as an Alabama Community of Excellence which recognizes the City as one of the top places to live in Alabama. To receive this designation, the city was required to meet certain criteria in leadership, planning, economic development, and quality of life.

Monroeville Main Street is a nonprofit organization that seeks to stimulate downtown revitalization through organization (encouraging cooperation and building leadership in the business community); promotion (creating a positive image for downtown by promoting it as an exciting place to live, shop and invest); design (improving downtowns appearance); and economic vitality (receiving, administering and distributing funds supporting these purposes).
Organization, promotion, design, and economic restructuring are the four features of the National Trust for Historic Preservations Main Street Four-Point Approach, a proven model that has helped revitalize more than 2,000 communities, produced billions in investment, and created hundreds of thousands of jobs in the last 34 years.
The Monroeville Main Street program was established as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit corporation in 2014. Prior to its creation, the Downtown Redevelopment Authority, the Historic Preservation Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, the Tourism Board, and other groups worked independently to revitalize downtown. Now, Monroeville Main Street is the hub linking those groups and other partnerships together as part of a sustainable, cohesive, progressive plan. We are one of only 16 communities selected to participate in the statewide coordinating program Main Street Alabama.
Developing a Main Street Program allows us to become more organized and assertive in marketing our downtown. Our director, Anne Marie Bryan, supervises day-to-day operations, with guidance and input from an eleven-member Board of Directors. Monroeville Main Street provides many services, including business recruitment, financial incentive programs and an incremental, coordinated advertising and promotion program.
Our offices are located at the corner of Pineville Road and 86 North Alabama Avenue in the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce building on the Downtown Monroeville Square. We invite you to call us at 251.743.2879 or visit and learn more about partnering with us to revitalize our beautiful town.

They eventually wound up in the Cantoment, Florida area and then worked their way into Alabama. Once they reached Alabama, they settled in Seminole, a small town just west of the Florida line. It was here that they found work under the employment of George Robinson.

Strength Ace Hardware
Ace stores nationwide, 4,500 of them come in all sizes and shapes. We have small, urban stores, large rural stores and everything in-between. Ace stores offer a wide variety of home improvement products, plus niche items and services relevant to the community. And of course, every Ace store offers that famous friendly, expert advice and service that set Ace stores apart from all the rest.
Ace is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. The company was created by a small group of Chicago hardware store owners who joined together to purchase merchandise in bulk to save money and buy at the lowest possible price. This enabled even the smaller stores to compete effectively at retail despite larger stores in their market.
Of course, Ace has many store owners in its family of entrepreneurs who joined well after their businesses were established, such as Emigh Ace Hardware in Sacramento, Calif., which celebrated its 100th year in business in 2008, and Wagner Ace Hardware in Ulysses, Pa., which celebrated 96 years in business this year.
