Best Friends Humane Society in Worth County is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to caring for the unwanted and abandoned animals in our community.
After a complete examination, vaccinations and quarantine period, animals are available for adoption.
The mission of the Best Friends Humane Society in Worth County is Striving to eliminate neglect, abuse and cruelty for all companion animals in Worth County through adoption, advocacy, education and action.

The Sylvester Local News is a weekly publication. It is the legal organ of Worth County and was established in 1884 as the Sumner Free Trader, making it Worth County's oldest business.
The building was built in the 1920's and still houses an original, fully-functional linotype machine, as well as a Heidelberg letterpress and a Hamada 600 offset printing press, still used for commercial printing.

The Sylvester Woman's Club is a volunteer civic organization originally founded in 1908 and federated in 1918. The Sylvester Woman's Club is a member of the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs, (GFWC Georgia). GFWC Georgia is a state organization composed of women’s clubs throughout the State of Georgia, whose members provide volunteer service to their local communities.
Our primary purpose is to carry out charitable service programs, provide leadership opportunities, and enrich the lives of its members through personal growth. Our club strives to plan and implement programs and projects for the betterment of our community and citizens. Our main areas of focus are education, art, conservation, home life, and domestic violence.
We are looking for new members to join us in serving Worth County and the surrounding community. We would love to welcome back former members and meet new ones to revive and refresh this historic community group.
Regular meetings are held on the second Tuesday, at 6:30pm, each month. The meetings are held at the Sylvester - Worth County Chamber of Commerce meeting room.

Armed with a dream and an old family sausage recipe, Thomas and Ann Carroll founded Carrolls Sausage in Ashburn, GA in 1988. Their idea was simple: please customers with the finest, best tasting sausages around. Before long, the business was a hit. Every customer that passed through Thomas and Anns doors was impressed by a sausage recipe that had been passed down and refined for generations.
In 2001, Hugh Hardy, Jr. purchased the business (and its world-famous sausage recipe) from the Carroll family. A longtime Carrolls Sausage employee himself, Hugh had a deep passion for the business and a powerful vision to expand it. Over time, Carrolls Sausage grew to include more meats, hundreds of grocery items, dozens of home grown Southern condiments, and a hot foods counter that serves breakfast and lunch. What began as a small butcher shop became a full-fledged country store.
Now known as Carrolls Sausage & Country Store, Hughs business continues to satisfy thousands of customers every year. The store still makes its home in Ashburn, GA, but with a new location right off I-75. Situated on this busy interstate, Carrolls is an oasis for weary travelers moving through Georgia and Florida. The business has also settled in Albany, GA, Sylvester, GA and Thomaston, GA.

Margaret Jones Public Library
Worth County Library is a single county library system with one facility located in Sylvester, Georgia. The library has served residents of Worth County since its formation on August 19, 1922. Since its inception, the library was a project of the Sylvester Womans Club. At that time the library was housed in the M. H. Westberry home.
On July 1, 1954, the Sylvester-Worth County Library Board became a unit of the Mitchell-Baker Regional Library to form a tri-county regional library system. The regional library name changed to DeSoto Trail Library System. For many years it had been the hope of the Womans Club to place the library in a separate building. The library moved into the Presbyterian Church with an Open House held on May 22, 1960. The old atmosphere of the building with its high beaded ceiling and its stained glass windows was carefully preserved. As a child, Sylvester native and critically acclaimed novelist Sue Monk Kidd could not separate in her mind the entanglement of church and library. Her mother says that she would beg to go to church. Her parents were awed by her piety until they realized she meant the library.
In 1978, the Sylvester Womans Club signed the deed transferring ownership of the local library to the City of Sylvester and the County of Worth with the agreement that they accept responsibility of maintaining it as a public library. Because the library outgrew the church, a group of citizens under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce gathered together for the purpose of building a new library. Public contributions were received to satisfy the matching funds required by the state. Substantial contributions came from Mr. and Mrs. David C. Jones in honor of Mrs. Margaret Jones, Mr. Jones mother for whom the library was named. Georgia governor Joe Frank Harris joined Worth Countians in celebrating the dedication of the Margaret Jones Public Library on November 22, 1987.

Ruths Cottage and The Patticake House is a non-profit organization whose mission is to end domestic and sexual violence, as well as child sexual and physical abuse. Since its inception in 2002, our program has provided free-of-charge, confidential services to victims of domestic violence and child abuse, serving the five-county region of Tift, Turner, Irwin, Ben Hill, and Worth counties.
In September 2002, the Ruths Cottage Domestic Violence Prevention Program was awarded grant monies for three advocates to work on behalf of family violence. These funds came from the Department of Human Resources and Criminal Justice Coordinating Council which administers both VOCA and VAWA funds. A regional Board of Directors was formed from the four-county circuit to include Irwin, Tift, Turner and Worth Counties. The District Attorney, Mr. Paul Bowden, was elected President to govern the 25-member board. Ruths Cottage, from its inception, has been a collaborative of DFCS, prosecution, law enforcement, courts, schools and colleges, the faith community, prevention, mental health, CASA, the business community, local government and concerned citizens.

In 1990 more machinery was added to upgrade and increase ginning capacity. In 1995 the Mobleys purchased property on Highway 270 and built a modern gin plant that was capable of processing 50 bales
Mobley Gin Company of Doerun, Georgia was established in 1985. John M. Mobley and sons, Mark, Mike, and Patrick, purchased the former Toney Brothers Gin located on Highway 133 South. In 1986 the Mobleys refurbished the Toney Brothers Gin with more modern machinery from North Carolina.and hour with a capacity of 75-80,000+ bales per year.
With ownership of the gin, businesses were added to support the operation. Mobley Warehouse Company was created to store cotton processed at the gin. Doerun Transport Company came into being to provide vehicles for transporting the cotton from the fields to the gin and then to the warehouses for storage.
In July 2009, John Mark Mobley joined his father in the cotton ginning business. The goal of Mobley Gin Company has been and will continue to be to provide the cotton farmer with the best customer service possible while striving to meet all of their ginning, warehousing, and marketing needs.

The Sylvester Computer Guy joined the Sylvester-Worth Chamber of Commerce in March 2012 after seeing the need arise for computer repair among local friends and businesses. As demand for services rose, and scheduled visits around town increased, the decision was made to open a storefront downtown in order to be more convenient for customers and to provide a more predictable means of getting service by allowing a central place for drop-offs and pickups.
The first location on N Isabella Street was opened in September 2012 in a 'pre-launch phase' which offered half-day business hours and centered primarily on offered services. The full launch debuted the first business day of 2013 and brought with it full-day business hours and an increase in offered products.
Outgrowing the original location, a new storefront was opened in April of 2013, which expanded the workshop area to handle higher volume, as well as a strong focus on in-stock inventory and low-cost ink and toner. 'I've always wanted to make sure I do things slowly and build deliberately so that I can continue to respond to the needs of the people with things they actually want, not just some abstract idea about what they should need,' Josh says.

The Housing Authority of the City of Sylvester has 122 USDA Rural Development apartments and 260 Public Housing apartments which are located in Sylvester and Warwick. The Authority will assist you in determining eligibility. They have established guidelines in determining eligibility for admission to and for continued occupancy of public housing.
The Authority works with a wide range of agencies and funding sources to offer services to our residents. The goals of these programs range from protecting residents with community police patrols to increasing positive activities for youth and seniors. Georgia Peanut Festival
The Annual Georgia Peanut Festival is both a celebration as well as a THANK YOU to our community and most importantly, our local farmers. It is held at T.C. Jeffords Park near downtown Sylvester GA, on the 3rd Saturday of every October! Working with Mr. Godwin has been one of my greatest employment ventures to date. Mr. Ronnie Godwin taught me some of the most important lessons one could ask for in my short but thrilling time with him. He taught me how to be a businessman, how to treat people with respect and dignity, and how to run my business in a way that is efficient, honorable, and honors the Lord. In 1917, 15-year-old Ray Kroc lied about his age to join the Red Cross as an ambulance driver, but the war ended before he completed his training. He then worked as a piano player, a paper cup salesman and a Multimixer salesman.
In 1954, he visited a restaurant in San Bernardino, California that had purchased several Multimixers. There he found a small but successful restaurant run by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald and was stunned by the effectiveness of their operation. They produced a limited menu, concentrating on just a few items – burgers, fries and beverages – which allowed them to focus on quality and quick service.
They were looking for a new franchising agent and Kroc saw an opportunity. In 1955, he founded McDonald’s System, Inc., a predecessor of the McDonald’s Corporation, and six years later bought the exclusive rights to the McDonald’s name and operating system. By 1958, McDonald’s had sold its 100 millionth hamburger.

NON-PROFIT working hard to make a difference in the # 1 killer of all cancers combined, Lung Cancer! We are a group of lung cancer advocates who are dedicated to raising awareness for lung cancer & helping lung cancer patients in need in our southwest GA area. We have one fundraiser a year, in lung cancer awareness month (November) held at Lake Blackshear Resort.
We have a 5K race, a 1-mile walk, and short "Challenger League" event so our special needs friends can take part. We depend on the support of many wonderful sponsors who help us put on the event, which brings participants from all over GA and even a few from AL & FL.
Each Sponsor gets their name listed on the back of the shirts & they also receive 2 - participation packets and a 100 % tax write off for the donation! It is great advertising as 700 shirts will be handed out!
Registration for each event is $30 per participant, and each receives a goody bag, a great long sleeve T-shirt with cool artwork of Lake Blackshear, BBQ lunch, cokes, water or beer for those 21 & up after the 5K finishes! The purchase in the summer of 2005 of Farmer’s Favorite Fertilizer, located in Evergreen, Alabama, increased the fertilizer storage capacity and added additional production facilities of bagged fertilizer products to distribute throughout the southeast United States. In the fall of 2007, Agri-AFC, LLC purchased the Chattahoochee River Terminal, located in Columbia, Alabama, to distribute fertilizer in the Southeastern Alabama and Western Georgia area. And in the spring of 2009, Agri-AFC, LLC purchased 12 additional retail locations in Southern Georgia and Mississippi.
Agri-AFC, LLC is headquartered in Decatur, Alabama and currently employs over 300 employees in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Florida. Agri-AFC, LLC has 7 fertilizer terminals, 3 Crop Protection warehouses, 3 seed warehouses, 8 Professional Products locations, a Cotton Gin & Warehouse in Eufaula, AL, and 29 retail operations all strategically located throughout Alabama, Southwest Georgia, Southern Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle.
