We accumulate memories through smells and growing up in Appalachia, I was no stranger to the mountains and the natural woodsy scents that grew there.
Reminiscing, I can smell the mountain air after a rainstorm and how the wet earth smelled musky and fresh. The lingering smell of pine as I watched the tall Table Mountain Pines swaying in the wind.
The distinctive aroma of a coal fire vs. a wood fire and the scents were wafting in the breeze as you walk through a field of Goldenrod, White Violets, or mountain laurel. There are not many things that can come close to being in the mountains, and not much will prepare you for the breathtaking scents and sights you will experience in the forest; being here gives one a sense of calm, tranquility, and the feeling of being alive. In reminiscing, the most cloying scent was that of my Grandfather.

Teen Venture
Teen Venture is a 501(c)3 non-profit, a teen center with the mission to help enrich the lives of area youth through various areas of interest. The Teen Venture Center is located in Richlands, Virginia, and serves youth in Tazewell, Russell, and Buchanan counties.
Teen Venture is a 501 (C)(3) charitable organization that was incorporated in 2001 by a group of business, educators, ministers, and elected officials in an effort to break the cycle of alarming school dropout rates, alcohol and drug abuse, and the lack of youth involvement within the community.
Our membership includes students who are in sixth-grade through age twenty and who are enrolled in middle school, high school, or college. For our older members who choose not to attend college, we require them to be employed by a local business, so they are learning a skill and are contributing to our society is some way.

Mission Statement: To advocate, plan, develop, implement and promote independence with a high quality of life for healthy aging that benefits individuals and families of all ages in a sustainable, livable community.
Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens (AASC) is a private non-profit organization formed in 1975 to improve the quality of life for the elderly through charitable, educational, social services, and other appropriate means. The Agency was created pursuant to the Older Americans Act, which is designated by contract with the Virginia Department for the Aging to develop and administer the Area Plan, as approved, for a comprehensive and coordinated system of services for older and disabled persons.
AASC also operates a state-licensed multiservice intergenerational daycare center that provides daily care including supervision, and personal and social support. In addition, AASC operates the public transit system in PSA (2) and is funded by the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transit. AASC operates AllCARE for Seniors, which is a rural PACE program that provides inclusive care for the elderly in PSA (2). The Agency’s service area is Planning and Service Area (2) which comprises the counties of Russell, Buchanan, Dickenson, and Tazewell, located in Southwest Virginia.

TAZEWELL, Va. (WVVA) -A new salon and spa had its grand opening Monday in Tazewell, Virginia that promises to be a welcoming environment for the community. It’s called Premiere Studio and it’s located in the heart of downtown Tazewell at 126 Federal Avenue. In addition to hair services, it offers massages, facials, full body waxing, and more. Vanessa Williams, the owner of Premiere Studio, says she wanted to bring a business to Tazewell that helps people feel as beautiful as the town they live in.
“Basically, I wanted to create Premiere Studio to give back to our community because I always felt like everybody needs a place to go to feel beautiful and feel welcomed, and that’s what I wanted to create for my small town,” says Williams.
Williams adds they are also looking for more employees. She encourages those interested to check out the salon’s Facebook page for more information.

The Chamber is the most trusted source for local information and services so it�s important for Chambers to leverage this prestigious position to retain and grow membership.
The Chamber Social Network is tightly integrated into the Chamber�s and member websites and offers visitors and members the option to submit a request for proposal (RFP) or a request for information (RFI) from the network of trusted Chamber of Commerce members. The technology helps the person submitting needs determine which members should be notified of a new lead they receive through the Chamber Social Network (�CSN�).
When the person who submits the request receives their responses from the member(s), email notifications include a link to the recipient explaining the value of membership within the Chamber of Commerce. Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens (AASC) is a private non-profit organization formed in 1975 to improve the quality of life for the elderly through charitable, educational, social services, and other appropriate means. The Agency was created pursuant to the Older Americans Act, which is designated by contract with the Virginia Department for the Aging to develop and administer the Area Plan, as approved, for a comprehensive and coordinated system of services for older and disabled persons.AASC also operates a state-licensed multi-service intergenerational daycare center that provides daily care including supervision, personal and social support. In addition, AASC operates the public transit system in PSA (2) and is funded through the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transit. AASC operates AllCARE for Seniors which is a rural PACE program that provides inclusive care for the elderly in PSA (2). The Agencys service area is Planning and Service Area (2) that comprises the counties of Russell, Buchanan, Dickenson, and Tazewell, located in Southwest Virginia.Aging is not a choice, however, aging well is. At AASC we firmly believe in fostering programs aimed at helping seniors stay within their homes and community as long as possible with dignity and grace. Our numerous programs work toward that goal, from Meals on Wheels delivery for home-bound seniors and disabled persons to homemakers and personal care aides that assist with bathing or dressing. AASCs main focus is to assure that every senior is treated with respect and dignity by responding to their needs with respect.
