4th of July Fun Run

The 42nd Annual Chester 4th of July Fun Run, hosted by the Almanor Recreation and Park District, saw an incredible turnout with over 450 participants converging on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, for a day of community spirit and fitness. From toddlers to seniors, runners and walkers of all ages embarked on a scenic one-mile journey down Chester's historic Main Street, culminating in a jubilant finish at the Bidwell House.

Although not individually timed, the event saw Tyler Eakin, last year's champion and a student at the University of Washington, leading the pack once again with an impressive time of 5:18. The festive atmosphere was palpable as participants crossed the finish line, coming together to enjoy refreshments and bask in the joyous kickoff to Independence Day celebrations. From colorful T-shirts adorned with artwork by local sixth grader Matthew Labota to creative costumes and multi-generational participation, the Fun Run embodied the spirit of unity and fun.

The success of this beloved community tradition was made possible through the generous support of 19 local sponsors and the dedication of 20 volunteers, ensuring a memorable experience for all involved. With proceeds benefiting ARPD programs, events, and vital capital improvement projects aimed at enhancing recreation, parks, and trails, the 4th of July Fun Run stands as a testament to the power of community and the spirit of giving. Thanks to the collective efforts of participants, sponsors, and volunteers, this year's event marked a milestone in fundraising success for ARPD, setting the stage for even greater accomplishments in the years to come.
