The Port of Hueneme boasts a world-class rail service through its connection to the Union Pacific Railroad, creating a vital intermodal link to North America. This service is facilitated by the Ventura County Railroad (VCRR), a Class III short-line railroad operated by Genesee & Wyoming Railroad since 2011. The VCRR features a 12-mile loop track with four branches, playing a crucial role in transporting freight and goods to and from the Port, the industrial areas of South Oxnard, and Naval Base Ventura County.
The Port's rail infrastructure includes optimal near-dock access, with specialized rail platforms at the South Spur for handling domestically manufactured vehicles. The North Spur extends into the naval base, enhancing logistical capabilities through a joint use agreement with the Navy. Recognized by the Rail Industrial Clearance Association (RICA) in 2012 as the most improved port, the Port of Hueneme continues to excel in providing efficient, reliable, and comprehensive rail services, supporting both regional and international trade.
