Offers a dedicated Family Center designed to foster a welcoming and community-oriented atmosphere. Services are provided in various settings, including schools, homes, and virtual platforms, ensuring accessibility across all service areas. We collaborate with local community partners to connect families with the best available resources.
The Family Center at New Horizons provides an array of services, including:
- CANS – Child & Adolescent Needs & Strengths Assessment: Required for children aged 3-17 entering DFPS care, this assessment identifies their strengths and needs within 30 days of initial placement and annually thereafter.
- Therapy: Our therapists are trained in Trust-Based Relational Interventions (TBRI), specializing in helping children and families who have experienced trauma, separation, and loss.
- Parent Support: Through training sessions, groups, and individual meetings, our therapists and case managers work with families to support parents and caregivers.
- Skills Training: We offer support to children aged 6-17 in schools, at the Family Center, or in other community settings, helping them navigate issues such as peer pressure and truancy.
Our counselors provide tailored guidance to help teenagers cope with the stress of being removed from their family, as well as with depression and grief associated with transitioning to a new home. The support varies based on each child's unique circumstances, ensuring a personalized approach.
Counseling is crucial for both the child and the new family to mitigate the confusion and emotional turmoil caused by such moves. We also offer sessions focused on preparing for the child's eventual return to their family, addressing potential emotional disconnections and helping to ease the transition.
