When I got married, my expectations and beliefs were very traditional: Husbands lead the way and wives play a supporting role, especially when it comes to finances. But as we all know, life is what happens while we're making other plans. All my beliefs were turned upside down, testing our relationship and my entire belief system.
To keep moving forward, I had to let go of everything I had held dear. The role reversal was scary. The uncertainty about our future was palpable. But I did it. I took the lead and reset our financial foundations. My hard work paid off. We built up our emergency savings and we were even able to fund special goals, like travel. In addition, what once felt nearly impossible, was now possible: We were able to plan for our retirement.
Through this process, I was able to identify what was most important to me, which is having a solid financial foundation that allows us the opportunity to enjoy the lifestyle we choose.
This experience is why I am a financial advisor. My goal is to help women feel heard, informed, inspired, motivated, and empowered to be in control of their finances and be successful according to what's important to them.
