Welcome to Faith Lutheran Church and Preschool, located at 1320 W 15th Street, Ottawa, KS 66067. At Faith Lutheran, our mission is to equip individuals for a ministry of discipleship through Christ. We strive to provide opportunities for people, both within and outside of Faith’s Family, to cultivate meaningful relationships with Christ and with one another. Our ultimate goal is to empower individuals for Christian discipleship.
As Lutherans, we proudly stand within the rich tradition of historical Christianity. The term 'Lutherans' reflects our commitment to the confession of faith upheld by Martin Luther and his fellow reformers. While some may attribute our confession to the Reformation of the 1500s, it is essential to recognize that our beliefs trace back to the Apostles themselves.
The Lutheran Reformers, including Martin Luther, sought not to create division within the Church or establish a new denomination. Instead, their mission was to purify the Church by eliminating new teachings and addressing abuses in practice, returning Christendom to the teachings of Scripture. Faced with opposition from the hierarchy in Rome, the Lutheran Reformers remained steadfast in their commitment. Despite being 'excommunicated' by the pope, they continued to preach and teach from Scripture, laying the foundation for the Lutheran tradition.
The core tenets of Lutheran teachings can be summarized in three powerful phrases: grace alone, faith alone, and Scripture alone. These principles, along with the Reformation slogan, "Verbum Domini Manet in Aeternum" ("the Word of the Lord remains forever"), guide our beliefs and practices.
