Good Samaritan Center of Excelsior Springs

The Good Samaritan Center of Excelsior Springs was founded in 1986 through the compassionate leadership of Father Larry Speichinger and a dedicated group from St. Ann Catholic Church. What began as a St. Vincent De Paul group responding to the growing needs of local families soon evolved into an independent, non-profit social service agency. Officially incorporated in 1989, the Center has continued to provide vital emergency assistance and advocacy to individuals and families in Excelsior Springs and the surrounding rural areas of Clay and Ray Counties who are facing hardship and lacking life’s necessities.

In 1993, the Center expanded its mission by opening Broadway Bargains, a thrift store located within the Center’s facility at the corner of Thompson and Broadway. The store offers affordable clothing and household items to the community, and provides them free of charge to those in crisis. Additionally, Broadway Bargains offers job training opportunities through the Title 5 Program, helping participants gain valuable skills and experience. Though Father Larry retired as Executive Director in 2003 and passed away in 2008, his vision and legacy continue to guide the Center’s unwavering commitment to service, compassion, and dignity for all.
